Each year, AWT develops and maintains monthly programs designed to help our members grow both their technical and "soft" skills, while providing opportunities to network with each other and give back to the community. Our calendar includes Intelligent Conversations with IT Thought Leaders, philanthropic events, the Women in Tech Summit at InnoTech Austin, happy hours, and special "Members Only" events.

Spots are limited at many of our events, so be sure to register for those you're interested in... and spread the word to friends & colleagues! Members receive discounted registration to every event, so if you are not yet a member, sign up here.

A perfect storm is upon us. COVID-19 has flipped everything upside down. Racial tension skyrockets, police and political attacks are on the rise, and corporations are pivoting to address structural bias. More than ever, we need to dismantle structural inequality in all facets of society. In this interactive session, Tahjar Roamartinez, CEO, Cyber Warfighters Group, Inc., explores why diversity and inclusion in the workplace is critical to dismantle the conscious and unconscious biases that support structural racism and inequality. Come with your questions and learn three ways to be a difference-maker.

Join us for an informational Lunch & Learn with Software Architect, Dana Huyler.

    Time/Date: August 11, 12PM - 1PM
    Location: Online via Zoom
Price: Free for members | $10 for non-members

Dana will be discussing "Developer Fallacies", a tech stack, language, and experience agnostic subject that results in bugs in the worst locations possible, the edge cases. This talk will encourage developers to think critically, and question base assumptions about some everyday (and some not so everyday) topics. We will discuss the problems around date and time processing, parsing email addresses, basic networking concepts, and why developers are so annoyed at the Australian Government, no joke. It will make you laugh, think, and hopefully be concerned that they should revisit their own assumptions to challenge themselves to design and write better code in the future.

    "Hacking Emotions: Bypassing The Systems
That Silence Your Voice at Work" with Keirsten Brager

People are often emotionally invested in their solutions or positions on topics. Women often face additional headwinds due to the constant need to prove themselves, automatic disqualification of their opinions, and well-documented bias in male-dominated environments. Additionally, technology solutions are often proposed with no consideration of the people and process impact. As a result, poor decisions full of strategic, operational, and business risks lead to bad outcomes.

The speaker will share her framework that participants can use to make their voices heard with data that does not lie. The framework can also be used in team settings to encourage peers to remove their emotions from the decision making process and make collaborative decisions that are in the best interest of the business.

"Future Focus: How to access your future self to get results today" with Ashley Kelsch

When we decide to pursue a new goal or think about our future, our brain immediately refers to the past to determine how we are going to accomplish it and provides us with evidence to show us what’s possible. This often limits our potential and growth.

I will teach you how to access your future self and obtain the knowledge you need now to create the life you want.
